Product Certification & Compliance
Get your product ready for market
Bringing a new product to market involves more than great design. Depending on what you're developing and where you plan to sell it, your product may need to meet specific safety standards and carry CE or UKCA marking.
At Bates Product Design, we help you navigate the certification process from the early design stages through to launch. We identify relevant requirements, incorporate compliance into the design and support the preparation of technical documentation, testing and declarations of conformity.
Which products need certification?
Products such as children's toys, electrical and electronic equipment, wireless devices and certain machinery are subject to specific safety regulations. Depending on the product and target market, CE or UKCA marking may be required.
Not every product needs a conformity mark, and some products can follow a manufacturer's self-certification route, while others require independent testing or assessment by an approved body.

Can I self-certify my product?
For certain products, manufacturers can demonstrate compliance through a process known as self-declaration of conformity. This involves assessing the relevant requirements, gathering supporting evidence, preparing technical documentation and signing a declaration of conformity where applicable.
We can guide you through this process, helping you understand the requirements and prepare the documentation needed to demonstrate compliance. Where specialist testing or independent assessment is required, we can help identify the appropriate next steps.

Certification built into the design process
We consider compliance from the outset, helping you avoid costly redesigns and delays later in development. From material selection and product safety to prototype testing and technical documentation, we help you work towards a product that's ready for market.
